Julissa Soto has dedicated her career to being a leading advocate for Latino immigrant equality, inclusion and health equity in Colorado and throughout the nation. From working with teen parent programs and serving on the Colorado Vaccine Equity Task Force, to promoting health equity at the American Diabetes Association, Soto has pioneered a wide range of programming designed to empower marginalized communities. Her advocacy efforts have appeared in publications throughout Colorado, as well as NPR, Time magazine, the American Public Health Association’s Public Health, Religion and Spirituality Bulletin, and a new documentary from the Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition. Julissa’s success in leading and managing evidence-based prevention programs has been recognized at both the state and national levels. She received a best practices award from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, and in 2021, her innovative programming and community-based intervention strategies earned one of Colorado’s most prestigious honors when Colorado Governor Jared Polis proclaimed September 20, 2021 as “Julissa Soto Day”. Today, Julissa is proud to continue to provide consulting and education services to partners and agencies throughout Colorado and the United States as CEO and founder of Julissa Soto Latino Health Equity Consulting. She serves on the Health Equity Commission for the Colorado Department of Public Health and is the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Co-Chair of the Regional Accountable Entity (RAE) Program Improvement Advisory Committee (PIAC), which provides guidance on health equity and outcomes. She also serves on the Suicide Prevention Commission for Colorado representing the voices of suicide attempt survivors – and particularly those facing multiple disparities. As a member of the Vaccine Community Advisory Board, Julissa contributes to research at the University of Colorado and Childrens Hospital by advising research recruitment efforts, connecting staff to community organizations, participating in discussions about vaccine and COVID treatment, and advocating for inclusive research practices. At the national level, Julissa currently serves on the United States Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)’s National Network to Eliminate Disparities in Behavioral Health (NNED) steering committee. She also serves as a Cultural Advisory Board member for Vaccinate Your Family, a national nonprofit organization that strives to protect people of all ages from vaccine-preventable diseases. In this role, she shares her extensive health equity expertise to aid in the development of outreach plans to increase pediatric COVID vaccine uptake in marginalized communities. In addition, Julissa is an active member of the National Hispanic Medical Association and serves on the KIPP Colorado Public Schools Board of Directors. In 2022, Julissa became a member of the Legislative Leadership Network for the Colorado Catholic Conference, where she combines her faith and health equity advocacy. In her spare time, Julissa is proud to partner with Young Invincibles as a mentor empowering young adults to enhance their voices, impact and economic opportunities. She also serves as a board member for Colorado Migrant Rural Coalition (CMRC), where she advocates for healthy equity and economic justice.

Arun Upadhyay, PhD, Chief Scientific Officer, and Head of Research, Development and Medical, drives Ocugen’s innovation and product development. He leads science and operations, creating and implementing fit-for-purpose strategies that enable scientific and business solutions. He oversees the development of various product modalities, such as biologics, vaccines, cell and gene therapy, and regenerative medicine and is responsible for all product development activities including discovery, proof of concept, preclinical, bioanalyses, CMC, clinical, safety, medical support, and global regulatory submissions across entire R&D pipeline. Dr. Upadhyay has over 20 years of experience across the biotechnology industry, academia, and government institutions, focused on discovery research, innovation, and product development. He successfully led multidisciplinary R&D functions including discovery, preclinical and clinical development of mAbs, bispecific, vaccines, and cell and gene therapybased products. He led cutting-edge molecular and cell biology research contributing to the development of new therapeutics for infectious, ophthalmic, and degenerative diseases. He managed the team responsible for process and analytical development, formulation design for biologics and gene therapy-based products, tech-transfer, scale-up, manufacturing of drug product, and supply logistics to clinical sites. He has worked extensively in drug development consisting of lead identification and target validation—ranging from small molecules to biologics and advanced cell and gene therapy modalities. Prior to joining Ocugen, Dr. Upadhyay led ophthalmic drug development and delivery research at the University of Colorado Denver in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. There he was instrumental in designing therapeutics for ophthalmic diseases; engineering biopolymers scaffold; and developing novel approaches, such as design of cell and tissues specific targeting peptides and nanosystems, for sustained and targeted drug delivery systems for peptide, proteins, RNA, and DNA to cells and tissues. Dr. Upadhyay led engineering of polymeric micro and nano carriers’ systems and adjuvant approaches to encapsulate vaccine antigens to enhance immunogenicity and protective immunity. Dr. Upadhyay received his PhD in Biotechnology from the National Institute of Immunology and an MSc in Biotechnology from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. He was awarded the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists’ “Innovation in Nanotechnology Award” for developing novel ocular drug delivery systems. Dr. Upadhyay has authored more than 40 scientific publications and holds more than 15 patents.

Dr. Eva Calvo-Pinilla works as a researcher at Centro de Investigación en Sanidad Animal (CISA) that belongs to Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) in Spain. She received a Master's degree in Molecular Biology from Autonomous University of Madrid, and completed her PhD at the same University. She also holds a Master's degree in Education from Complutense University of Madrid. She received a pre-doctoral fellowship for PhD studies and then move to The Pirbright Institute, UK, to work as post-doctoral fellow for three years. She awared a competitive post-doctoral fellowship “Juan de la Cierva” and currently she is Tenured Scientist at CISA, Immunoprophilaxis of Arboviruses department. Her main expertise relies in immune studies of Orbiviruses among other viruses, and the generation of recombinant vaccines using different methodologies. Currently she is mainly focused on the study of control strategies against African horse sickness virus and Epizootic Hemorrhagic disease. She has been involved in international and national projects related with Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, Rift Valley fever, Bluetongue virus and Sars-CoV-2, in the evaluation of immune responses of vaccine candidates and the efficacy of antiviral compounds. She has published 35 peer-reviewed articles in relevant SCI indexed journals, and presented her works in 42 national and international meetings. She also supervises master students and undergraduate student research projects.

Hegazi organized and contributed to national and international research projects since 1977 and up till now; he has been the principal investigator on multiple research projects within the National Research Center. He Conducted training courses on Clinical Microbiology, National Research Center in 1979. He has 256 articles in national and international scientific journals. Editor in 48 journals, Referee in the 98 International Journals, Organizer of 196 International Symposium and conferences, 9 books in English language and 13 books in Arabic language. He has patent No. 28335at 11/12/2017. and registers for other 7.

Through guest speakers, hands-on work, job shadowing, and volunteer work, CAPS allows me to gain experience in a variety of occupations in the healthcare field. Observed wound vac, shot/IV administration, wound care, sterilization, patient engagement, medication administration, eating choices, and transferring patients. Engage and converse with healthcare experts as well as individuals who share the desire to obtain knowledge about the healthcare field. Propose projects in competitions covering a variety of Healthcare topics. My distinguishing characteristics will set me apart from other candidates and enable me to improve people's lives. My coworkers and friends define me as compassionate, enthusiastic, proactive, collaborative, and patient. I can problem-solve and operate well under pressure. Every day, I strive to make an effective impact in the lives of others. I am deeply committed to assisting others. My mother and grandfather both had health problems when I was growing up. I desire to give back to the individuals who assisted them. My skills will be put to use to help me reach my goals in the healthcare industry. CAPS will assist me in achieving my objectives and dreams. I want to explore my curiosity in the medical field as well as the science along with it. I got to participate in a cadaver at Logan University. This included a tour of the body, allowing me to understand anatomy and learn the functions of the body hands on.
