Sergey Suchkov was born in the City of Astrakhan, Russia, in a family of dynasty medical doctors. In 1980, graduated from Astrakhan State Medical University and was awarded with MD. In 1985, maintained his PhD as a PhD student of the I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy and Institute of Medical Enzymology, USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. In 2001, maintained his Doctor Degree at the National Institute of Immunology, Russia. From 1985 through 1987, worked as a Post Doc Research Associate, for Institute of Medical Enzymology; from 1987 through 1989, was a Senior Research Associate, Koltzov Institute of Developmental Biology, USSR Academy of Sciences. From 1989 through 1995, was a Head of the Lab of Immunology and Immunobiotechnology, Helmholtz Eye Research Institute in Moscow. In 1989, trained at the Lab of Immunology, NEI, Bethesda, MD, USA,, NIH and Lab of Immunology, Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, USA, as well as at some of the British Universities on the invitation of the Royal Society for Immunology. From 1995 through 2004, was a Director of the Dept for Immunology, Moscow Clinical Research Institute (MONIKI). In 1993-1996, was an Executice Secretary-in-Chief of the Editorial Board, Biomedical Science, an international journal published jointly by the USSR Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK.
Raffaele Pilla, Pharm.D., Ph.D., Doctor Europaeus, received his Master’s degree in Pharmacy at G. d’Annunzio University in Chieti-Pescara, Italy in 2005, where he also served internships at the Cell Physiology Laboratory and Molecular Biology Laboratory. Prior, he was an Erasmus Student at Faculté de Pharmacie de Reims in Reims, France. He received his Doctor Europaeus in 2010 from Pitié-Salpétrière Institute in Paris, France. Also in 2010, he received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Physiology, and Pathology of Muscle at G. d’Annunzio University in Chieti-Pescara, Italy. He was hired as a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at the University of South Florida in Tampa, on two research grants funded by the Office of Naval Research (US Navy) and Divers’ Alert Network. He has written and lectured widely worldwide. He has been involved in ongoing research at the University of South Florida with the use of ketone esters.
Mr. Emmanuel Afriyie graduated with a bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Food science from the University of Ghana in 2022. At the moment, he is employed at Food Safety Hub as an auditor and project officer being involved in an ongoing Sedex and FSSC 22000 audits. He was previously employed by FanMilk Ghana PLC, a Danone West Africa Dairy and Juice factory, as a Quality and Food Safety engineer. He worked as a laboratory scientist intern at Barnor Memorial Hospital as well. He recently worked on a Danone study that was the Rapid Detection of alpha amylase enzymes in sugars.
My professional experience started in the restaurant business, where I operated along with my family a three-year generation business since 1970 as owners; in 2017 I continued my career abroad in Hotellerie Management that I worked for Hyatt, Accor e Marriott.
Last year I took a sabbatical to broaden my knowledge in Nutrition Science through a Master's Degree in Culinary Nutrition, which is the blend of Nutrition Science and Culinary Art.
I am currently working in Italy as a consultant in Culinary Nutrition doing scientific information, cooking courses through Culinary Nutrition techniques, scientific meetings and round tables, and I curate a science in the kitchen column for an online magazine on Mediterranean products.
I am Berfin from the Republic of Turkey, and I am currently giving training at the public educational institution for the food industry and training qualified personnel. My trainings consist of 14 different topics in total. These; Occupational Health and Safety, Milk Hygiene, Acceptance of Milk to the Enterprise, Preparation of Milk for Processing, Cleaning and Disinfection in Enterprises, Personnel Hygiene, White Cheese Production, Packaging Control in Foods, Food Quality Characteristics, Warehouse and Shipment Control, Labeling Control in Food Packaging, Harvesting of Bee Products, Such as Quality Control in Honey, Packaging and Storage of Bee Products. I graduated from Erciyes University, Department of Food Engineering in 2020. I am continuing my master's degree at Bingöl University in the Department of Food Safety. I am actively working on projects to improve the quality of wine at Bingöl University. I recently started writing a compilation article on 'Quality Criteria in Wine and Examination of Mycotoxin Formation'. At the same time, I have positions in which I provide consultancy for the sector remotely and simultaneously as a research and content producer on various food issues within the Food Information social enterprise project.
I have done various studies on functional foods and food supplements and I continue to do these studies or similar ones. There are products for which I have completed R&D studies, especially in this field. I will continue my career and expertise by working on the development of innovative foods with functional properties.
In my presentation titled 'Functional Foods and Healthy Nutrition: Nutraceuticals and Bioactives', I will talk about the definition of functional foods, their importance and their future for the food industry or consumers.
