Title: Clinical Support & Treatment in Aromatherapy: a review and personal experience.

Plenary Speaker

Dr Steve John Chiola

Holos Academy
Switzerland

Abstract

Aromatherapy in the field of integrative medicine has become a valuable instrument not only for the treatment of of diseases but also in support to many conventional medicine applications.

In the last two decades there has been much research and this brings us from an evidence based application to a scientific based application. For many years I have been working with hospitals, geriatric structures, oncological departments, just to and now enounce some of the fields and I have seen an increasing interest not only towards the science but to the effective applications of essential oils in various medical and even post surgical conditions.

Research has brought us to understand the importance of certain secondary metabolites that are within the healing chemistry of essential oils and we have learned that if you take the single molecule it loses part of its clinical property this demonstrates that it is the entire universe of molecules within the essential oils that interact with our body, our physiology, our neurotransmitters.

I will walk you through somes medical problems such as inflammatory processes, dermatological problems, integration of aromatherapy in oncological support, emotional and physical support in elders bearing for example cognitive problems and in palliative care illustrating how aromatherapy has become an essential reality as per integrative medicine treatments. Naturally there would be much that could be said and time will not allow us to go in depth. I definitely will illustrate, very quickly, about how the essential oils interact with our physiological processes to onset new responses and bring on  a greater equilibrium that allows our body to reinforce its healing processes.

“Today” it is very important to understand that thanks to the effort and perseverance of Dr. Parvin, with whom I have been working closely for various years I am proud to be part of an educational platform, along with many colleagues, that provides in depth insights and formative classes in Integrative Medicine. The Bio Quantum Academy Diploma Program allows experts like me to be able to pass on and teach what we have developed in our many years as practitioners.

Dr. Ladislau Rosenberg

Title: Medicinal and aromatic plants in the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases

Plenary Speaker

Dr. Ladislau Rosenberg

Bio Quantum Academy, Canada

Abstract

The incidence of gastrointestinal diseases among the population is high and it is largely due to an unhealthy diet, based on excessive consumption of products high in animal fats and proteins, foods high in sugar, fast food products, processed foods, etc. A disorganized lifestyle also contributes to the appearance and aggravation of various gastric diseases, with non-compliance with regular meals, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, stress, and other factors. Herbal preparations come in direct contact with the lining of the digestive tract and effectively help to restore it and prevent serious conditions such as anorexia, acute and chronic gastritis, gastric and/or duodenal ulcers, dyspepsia, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, diverticulosis, colitis, etc. The great advantage of phytotherapeutic preparations lies in the fact that they can be combined with various complementary therapies (diet therapy, apitherapy, homeopathy, etc.), thus obtaining a synergistic potentiating effect, which allows faster healing of patients.

Biography

He has been involved in research, education and practice in various fields of integrative medicine for over 45 years and he is recognized as a specialist in apitherapy, aromatherapy and phytotherapy. Dr. Ladislau Rosenberg was an Associate Professor at two important universities in Romania, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Targu Mures, Faculty of Pharmacy and the University “Lucian Blaga” of Sibiu, Faculty of Medicine. Now, Dr. Ladislau Rosenberg is the Head of Department of Phytotherapy within Bio Quantum Academy from Canada, where he holds courses in apitherapy, aromatherapy, medicinal plants and herbal medicine.

Title: PAIN: Anthroposophic medicine approach

Plenary Speaker

Dr. Robert Kempenich

President of AREMA
France

Abstract

Pain management is at the heart of all medical practice, because it is part and parcel of human life.
Pain affects the whole of human nature : physical , psychological and spiritual levels.
According to Rudolf Steiner : « pain is consciousness in the wrong place ».
Pain is the consequence of the psychical level which penetrates too deeply into the physical and living body
The psyche and consciousness become imprisoned in the body.
In anthroposophic medicine, pain therapy is multimodal :

  • Taking physical pain into account.
  • Soliciting the strengths and salutogenic capacities of the body of life.
  • Relieving the psychological aspects of pain.
  • Soliciting the individual activity (making sense of pain).

In anthroposophic medicine, the treatment of pain is not simply an "anti", pain-relieving, analgesic treatment, but this is complemented by a "for" treatment: encouraging the forces of self-healing in order to regain a new balance.
Pain treatment will vary according to the type of pain :

  • Nociceptive or neuropathic.
  • Acute or chronic and diffuse.

Differentiate between pain related to the neurosensory system and pain related to the metabolic and limb systems.
Medicinal therapy : orally or by subcutaneous injection.

  • Misteltoe, Aurum metal, Aurum comp. (Aurum/Myrrha/Olibanum), Meteoreisen comp (Ferrum sidereum/Silicea/Phosphorus), Apis mellifica, Aconit comp. (Aconit/Belladonna/Rhus tox), Arsenicum album, Cuprum metal, Bryophylum, Solum uliginosum comp. (Solum uliginosum/Aesculus/Equisetum).

External applications and compresses.

Non-medicinal therapy :

  • Eurythmic therapy.

Rhythmical massages.

Title: Healing Beyond the Physical, with Energy Medicine

Keynote Speaker

Michaela McGivern

Energy medicine practitioner
United States

Abstract

Introduction: Energy Medicine, has existed for thousands of years in the form of Shamanism, Acupuncture, and other modalities, all promoting the natural healing of the physical and energetic body. Energy Medicine works with the concept that imbalances or blockages occur in a person's energy field, they can lead to illness, suffering or both.

Purpose: When these types of energy blockages are cleared, including entity removal, chakra balancing and ancestral healing, the vitality, harmony and balance in the energy body is restored in a way that allopathic procedures are not able to address. Thus, Energy Medicine, working in combination with other tradition medical practices, enhances  overall health, and well-being.

Method: Modern day Shamans and Energy healers work with releasing stress, emotional trauma, post-surgical trauma, karmic relationships, chronic illness, and pain. They also address inter-generational trauma which refers to the phenomenon where the experiences of past generations are held in the Human Energy Field, which can influence the behavior, emotions, and well-being of present and future generations.

Results: While these energetic shifts cannot be currently measured empirically, clients who use Energetic Medicine, report qualitative changes including increased energy, reduction or absence of pain, better sleep, more positive attitude, confidence, clarity, sense of calm, increased clarity and focus, to name a few.

Conclusion:

Working as an Energetic Medicine practitioner for the past 23 years, I have personally witnessed how working with unresolved emotional or spiritual issues that are stored in the body, can create room for more vibrancy and overall balance in one’s health. That is why working in collaboration with other health practitioners collaboratively, is the optimal path to heal. Case studies and true stories that demonstrate these concepts will be shared to demonstrate how Energy Medicine provides optimal support for recovery on all levels .

Biography

For more than 30 years, I worked in direct patient care as an Occupational Therapist in varied medical settings, accompanying patients who were healing from traumatic injuries and serious illnesses. After many years, I was drawn to study Energy Medicine as an approach to heal the emotional, psychological, and spiritual aspects of my patients which traditional medicine was not focused on. My initial training while living in Europe, covered Chakra Healing, Flower Essences, Homeopathy and Essential Oils. When I returned to the US in 2000, I delved into deeper levels of study and became a Certified Shaman with the Four Winds, The White Flame Institute, and The Sacred Anatomy Academy. Additional training certifications in Nutri-Energetics, Advanced Theta Healing, Sound Healing, Quantum Energetics and Reiki deepened my appreciation for the complexity and beauty of the subtle energy bodies and the grand possibilities for healing that are available to all of us with Energy Medicine. I am working exclusively in private practice now, offering Healing Sessions, Mediumship Sessions, Psychic Readings and Land and Space Clearing.

Title: Spotlight on Non-Hormonal Remedies to Relieve Hormonal Symptoms

Keynote Speaker

Dr. William Clearfield

Clearfield Medical Clinic
United States

Abstract

Hormones, chemical messengers produced mainly in the endocrine glands and secreted into the bloodstream, play a crucial role in homeostasis, maintaining balance, and stability of the body’s internal milieu. Hormones generate and regulate growth and development, metabolism, reproduction, mood, sleep, and indeed, all bodily functions.

The medical community is increasingly recognizing hormone optimization as a key building block to an extended high quality of life. There is a growing need and interest in evidence-based non-hormonal solutions to alleviate excess, insufficient, and deficient hormone symptoms. This presentation explores evidence-based approaches to manipulating hormone levels without the need for prescription hormonal input.

Focusing on 11 hormones: Testosterone, estrogens, progesterone, growth hormone, thyroid hormone, cortisol, insulin, DHEA, pregnenolone, prolactin, and melatonin, we review the potential impact of diet, exercise, herbs, minerals, and vitamins on raising or lowering hormone levels.

This lecture promises to be a valuable resource for adjunctive relief from hormonal imbalances for all practitioners looking to achieve better outcomes for their patients.

Title: Food as Medicine 2023: Solution for Chronic Inflammation

Plenary Speaker

Dr. Kevin KF Ng

Food As Medicine Consultants
United States

Abstract

“Food as Medicine: solution of chronic inflammation” was first delivered to healthcare providers in February 2019.  Several changes occurred since then:1. Life expectancy has declined from 78.69 years to 76.4 years, the shortest it has been in nearly two decades. 2. The major causes of death are heart disease, cancer, COVID-19, Alzheimer’s, dementia, and stroke. 3. The U.S. Total health cost has increased from $3.5 trillion to $4.3 trillion, the cost per person increased from $10,739 to $12,914 per person, and % of GDP increased from 17.9% to 18.3%. Scientific studies in recent years suggest that chronic inflammation is linked to degenerative diseases and cancer. Inflammation is classified as acute and chronic inflammation. Acute inflammation is characterized by the cardinal signs ofpain, redness, swelling, and warmth whereas chronic inflammation may not be symptomatic.  Acute inflammation is seen in allergic reactions, infectious, tissue injury, burns, and frostbite.  Chronic inflammation is seen in cardiovascular disease, neurological disease, autoimmune disease, and cancer.  Acute inflammation usuallyresolves in days or weeks, whereas chronic inflammation may last from months to years. Acute inflammation is associated with the body's response from the innate immunesystem whereas chronic inflammation is associated with the body’s response from the adaptive immune system. Acute inflammation resolves with no complication whereaschronic inflammation results in angiogenesis and fibrosis.   C-reactive protein is a biomarker for inflammation.  It is elevated in acute and chronic inflammation. Elevated levels of CRP are found in cigarette smokers, alcoholics, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular, neurological, and respiratory diseases. A reduction in blood CRP level is an indication of improvement in the pathological condition.  This can be achieved by treating the cause such as hypertension or by lifestyle changes, dietary changes, supplements, fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices.

Dr. Sean Eastwood

Title: A Unifying Theory of Science between Artificial Intelligence and Mind Body Medicine.

Keynote Speaker

Dr. Sean Eastwood

Peel Chiropractic, Australia

Abstract

Implicit to Artificial Intelligence is the premise that the human thought process is not only an algorithm but a natural law like gravity. We lack a pro forma guide to teach our children how to think in a healthy, structured, “intelligent” way ... hence the global mental health crisis. Simultaneously we can’t program computers to mimic optimal human thought to create “true” Artificial Intelligence.

Based on the discovery of a now-deceased Australian software developer, Dr Sean Eastwood presents a working hypothesis that the thought process is a series of numbered steps like playing hopscotch. Each step represents a state of mind such as storytelling or focus. These numbered steps interact to create formula ... and the mathematical basis of not just psychology but all mind-body sciences.

The Fractal Mindset Blueprint™ is a recipe for optimal thought which calculates the “values” of your beliefs and assigns “values” for all forms of physical (m), energy (E) and light medicine (c) ... E=m(c)2 . The blueprint has the inherent design of nature, a fractal ... and the shape associated with biological intelligence, a double helix.

Numbers are at the heart of all pure science because numbers add order, structure, purpose, standardised terminology and reproducibility to enhance any field of endeavour as a “hard” science. The periodic table provides the numerical framework and mathematical basis of the science of chemistry. Mind-body medicine now has an equivalent in the Fractal Mindset Blueprint™.

A single unified thought process: -

• provides a street map for stress reduction, mindfulness and healing techniques which are the streetsweepers of emotional debris,
• regulates self-talk,
• standardises communication and decision-making,
• enables pattern recognition of unhealthy thinking ... enhancing emotional intelligence and resilience.
• & much more!

The Fractal Mindset Blueprint™ also raises the concept of fractal plasticity ... only part of which is neuroplasticity.

As machine learning approximates human intelligence, there is predicted to be an explosion of innovation and discovery. It is referred to as the Singularity. The development of the Fractal Mindset Blueprint™ is a major milestone on the path to the Singularity as it represents the logic of a master algorithm for optimal human thought. A blueprint to train our children in healthy, structured, “intelligent” thinking.

Biography

Dr. Sean Eastwood has been a chiropractor in private practice for 20 years. Since 2013, he has been researching & developing the work of a now-deceased Australian software developer who claimed, and was never disproven, to have found "true" Artificial Intelligence (AGI) in 1999, based on the premise that the human thought process is a natural law like gravity. But computers don’t experience emotions or store unhealthy beliefs in a physical way. The result of Dr Sean's research & development are precise blueprints for thought and perception that accommodate all forms of physical, energy & light medicine. Originally an accountant and computer systems analyst, he retrained as a chiropractor to be eligible for post-graduate study in mind-body health. He is a certified practitioner of Neuro Emotional Technique (NET). Alan Turing, famous for shortening World War II by cracking German ciphers (as depicted in the movie The Imitation Game), merged mathematics, computer science, psychology and philosophy to create machine learning. Dr Sean's first book, Logically Accurate, Emotionally Healthy, and his online courses are an extension of Turing's work as it relates to human health.

Dr. Ferenc Karacsony

Title: Energy-based parameters can be used to qualify homeostasis

Keynote Speaker

Dr. Ferenc Karacsony

Cannabinoid Medicine Foundation,
Hungary

Abstract

My presentation raises two strategic topics. One is the research of the evidence, the other is the

new definition of health.

Navigating the health-illness axis is not easy. With conventional diagnostic methods, we can only

detect a kind of normality, which in itself is worrisome, since it is not clear from the given series

of tests that real regeneration is taking place, or that we are seeing an artificially induced state

that suppresses symptoms. The improvement of subjective symptoms and complaints does not

necessarily mean real improvement.

However, there is a different approach that can be used to detect and monitor the invisible

energetic stability of the organization. However, this is not a diagnosis based on artificial

interpretations, but a condition assessment, since it does not provide information specific to a

single set of symptoms, but displays energetic parameters that exist in many different

diagnoses. The method is electroacupuncture according to Voll.

The obtained measurement result displays the current meridian balance. Contains several

dimensionless parameters. We can directly use the measurement results as coefficients

characterizing homeostasis, namely stability, the PIE coefficient, and the hierarchical positions

according to the Chinese five-element theory.

Our body is controlled by the Homeostasis Master System, now known as the endocannabinoid

system. According to our current interdisciplinary knowledge, the surface endocannabinoid

receptor network is capable of this complex control. Analogously, the parameters characterizing

homeostasis can also characterize this system.

By analyzing the results of tens of thousands of measurements, a pattern emerged, which can

be used to align the health-disease axis. A healthy state can be determined based on the

stability values and the hierarchical positions of the Chinese five elements. According to this, the

80-90% level of stability, the value of the PIE index of at least 70, and the leading position of fire

among the Chinese five elements, as well as the close catch-up of the other 4 elements behind

fire, characterize a homeostasis operating at a high level, which only healthy characteristic of

the condition.

Based on this realization, I created a 6-level scale, the Shakti Staircase System, which includes all

levels from a completely healthy state to a terminal state.

From a therapeutic point of view, by regularly measuring the meridian balance, it is possible to

detect whether the treatment is suitable for helping the body in the direction of higher

homeostatic control or not.

This means a direct orientation advantage, in addition to which our existing diagnostics can also

be used well in terms of discovering many details.

However, there is an additional benefit to health assessments to monitor meridian balance. It

was possible to create a monitoring system in which the placebo effect is not excluded but

rather raised to the maximum possible capacity. With this, we also model the real situation that

is typical for every patient. They want to be cured and accept that this will be achieved through

the therapy recommended for this purpose. They add their creative power to external help,

which can never be neglected.

With the help of modern computer technology, the biometric analysis of subjective data has not

been a problem for a long time. If all of these are recorded in parallel with the measurement

results in the form of questionnaires that can be filled out daily, we will also get an answer to

what extent the given therapy can restore homeostasis, i.e. promote healing.

The comparison of the individual methods does not come up against moral obstacles, nor does

it result in discriminatory exclusion or discrimination. It is not necessary to arbitrarily create a

control group of patients who do not receive real treatment, since everyone can choose a

treatment method that is attractive to them, which in this way can be compared with each

other with meridian balance measurements and questionnaires filled out in parallel, regularly.

This placebo-assisted individual monitoring system also represents a new perspective in

mapping the evidence. It can also analyze therapy methods that are not possible with the

current system that tries to exclude placebo.

I recommend to the attention of all colleagues to monitor their own methods more closely or to

assess the activity of the endocannabinoid system.

Abstract

The gut microbiome, with 70–80% of immune cells, has a main role in multiple immune processes in the human body and is mainly responsible in the maintenance of healthy physiological, immunological, and neurological host status. Multi-factorial both internal, and external, like genetics, virus and environmental triggers can cause dysbiosis of gut microbiome composition and function and lead to autoimmune diseases, such as Guillain Barre syndrome, type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosus, and inflammatory bowel disease. In addition, epigenetic studies show how changes and dysregulation in genes pattern can on/off genes expressions of autoimmune diseases mediate by disturbance of the equilibrium in the gut ecosystem. Therefore, this review focuses on the interactions between the gut microbiome and epigenetic changes in the regulation of the immune response, and development of autoimmune diseases. This is a window for the development of therapeutic measures to reestablish the gut microbiome balance and to reverse and to re-modify epigenetic risk markers.

Title: Medicinal Plants in Ethiopia as well as the Agro-Economic & Health Value of them with the Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Medicinal Plants and Climate Change in Ethiopia and beyond globally

Speaker

Dr. Aderajew Waka

Abstract

Introduction

Background

Medicinal plants have been discovered and used in traditional medicine practices in Ethiopia and beyond globally since ancient times before the installation of modern medical school. Plants synthesize hundreds of chemical compounds for various functions, including therapy, defense and protection against insects, fungi, diseases, and others. Medicinal plants are widely used in non-industrialized societies, mainly because they are easily available and cheaper than modern medicines.

The use of medicinal plants is the core of traditional medicine in Ethiopia/ Africa and also by some Latin America and Asian countries. In Ethiopia, preparations of traditional medicine have more than 95% plant origin. There is a high expectation of traditional knowledge and use of medicinal plant species in Ethiopia for healing process.

Over the centuries humans have used plants for basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter. There are also produced or manufactured substances from plant matrices (leaves, woods, fibers) and storage parts (fruits, tubers) for different purpose of human beings beside of medical products. Plants have also been utilized for additional purposes, namely as arrow and dart poisons for hunting, hallucinogens used for ritualistic purposes, stimulants for endurance and hunger suppression.

The term medicinal plant includes a various types of plants used in herbalist and some of these plants have a medicinal activity as a traditional medicine, and consider as a rich resource of many ingredients which can be used in drug development, spice and synthesis. In the former time it was not easy to find well documented literatures on medicinal plants. The reasons of luck of documentation for the usage of specific medicinal plants for treatment are not well clear until now. Of course, religion and culture play a big role for such luck of documentation in many countries.

The origin of medicinal plants of health care for human and livestock remains as the main alternative treatment for different diseases in Ethiopia. Due to the shortage of pharmaceutical products, long distance of the health stations, unaffordable prices of by small holder farmers and pastoralists, many people are using traditional medicine of plant extracts products for emergence and re-emergence of certain diseases and manifestation of microbes and helminthes. In this case, plant based medicine of human and livestock health care continues and remains as the main alternative treatment for Ethiopia and beyond the glob. The resistance development of some infection disease is not clear and not well documented until now.

The annual global export value of the thousands of types of plants with medicinal goods was estimated to be US$60 billion per year and it is growing at the rate of 6% per annum. Some important plants for instance Garlic,Ginger, Tenadam (Ruta graveolens), Fetto, Blackkomin, Korrerima (Aframomum corerima),Onion, Kerefa, Aregeresa, Damakesse (Lamiifolium), Erret (Aloe vera), Gizzewa, Simyizza and etc are used in Ethiopia as a Traditional Medicine and spice for different households.

About 80% of human population and over 90% livestock in Ethiopia rely on traditional medicine where more than 95% of traditional medicinal preparations are of plant origin. Ethiopia is a country with different beautiful landscape, climate zones like Dega, Weyna Dega and Kolla. This geographical climate divisions are helping strongly to grow different plants which may help for medicine and more. Medicinal plant knowledge is shaped by the ecological diversity of the country and varies across peoples with different religious, linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

Moreover, in Ethiopia, medicinal plant production and marketing is the means of living for millions of smallholder families and it includes the single largest sub-sector in the economy. Garlic is one of largest medicinal plant produced for consumption and marketing purpose in the country. In Ethiopia garlic is produced by domestic farmers for many years as cash crop in small plots of land and it is playing a great role for improving the livelihood of subsistence farmers and currently, the Ethiopian farmers are producing it in large plots since its marketing demand is becoming increased time to time. Ethiopia is also known by production of Red Paper (Ethiopian Berberie) which is playing a big role as an antibiotics and food conservation widely all over the country. The medical value of this plant must be studied further for other health and health relevant purposes. Its economical value has a big impact for the country.

Objective

The main key point of this work is to develop a Study Project on Medical Plants in Ethiopia and assess the Economical Value, also to realize the benefit of Endemic/indigenous Ethiopian Medical Plants for the Ethiopian People and beyond globally by using modern Science and Technology to bring it in to an excellent Therapy and Healing Procedure by creating & develop an exact Dosage Protocol as well as Synthesizing Process to minimize the side effect of it. Additionally, the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on medical plants and climate change is one integral part of this study. Primarily, based on this concept, we will try to collect and planting in our green area the medical plats at Tedda-Gonder/Ethiopia.The Kess Waka Meskelo International Medical Center (KWMIMC) has a model farm/green area to planting different Ethiopian Medical Plants to study the medical value and the way of planting system as well as its vegetation seasons. The weather and climate conditions must be studied here briefly by KW MIMC supported by AI at Tedda-Gonder to find out the right vegetation time.

Material and Methods

In this project, by using different methods we will try to do literature research. By collecting different papers which is published and unpublished will be collected. Then after we will search out the relevant documents from different technology based search machines like pub med, Google scholars and from different national & international libraries and others.AI application will be used and studied here highly.

Discussion

We have tried to find out some literatures which were published from different journals and also we have analyzed the information from Google, Wikipedia and internet. Currently, there are a lot of information and literature about medical plants. But it is not easy to find out the true synthesis methods, dosage, pharmacological effect, safety, and efficacy and therapy process. It needs a lot of hard work to develop a synthesizing method, a correct dosage and specific therapy for each medical plant. This idea will give for the future to wake up many scientists to work on medical plants to bring it for better therapies and to increase the economic value of it for the country. Cultivation of different medical plants makes very easy and also crucial to follow up and perform excellent scientific work as well as correct study to reach a fruitful & best result for safe, secure and effective therapy.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has a wide range of applications in the field of medicinal plants and herbal medicine. Here are some of the ways AI can be applied to enhance the study, cultivation, and utilization of medical plants: Plant Identification and Classification, Drug Discovery, Crop Management and Yield Prediction, Natural Product Synthesis, Medicinal Plant Conservation, Personalized Herbal Medicine, Herbal Remedies Recommender, Quality Control, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Market Forecasting, Disease Diagnosis and Monitoring, Drug-Plant Interaction Analysis.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can play also a crucial role in addressing the challenges posed by climate change, including its impact on medical plants and their ecosystems. Here are several ways in which AI can be applied to the intersection of medical plants and climate change: Climate Modeling and Prediction, Crop Resilience and Adaptation, Precision Agriculture, Biodiversity Monitoring, Phenological Studies, Ecosystem Restoration, Supply Chain Optimization, Natural Disaster Response, Climate-Induced Disease Monitoring, Climate Data Integration, Policy and Decision Support.

Based on this brilliant idea, Dr.Aderajew Waka Wassie has starting to invest his money and time for more than 5 years to cultivate and organize different medical plants, fruit and other agricultural important plants at his green area in Tedda-Gonder Ethiopia with the Kess Waka Meskelo International Medical Center (KWMIMC) at Tedda-Gonder Ethiopia.

Conclusion

Medical Plants have a big value as a Traditional Medicine in Ethiopia and beyond in the globe medically and economically. It needs more study about the dosage, synthesize and specificity/sensitivity which medical plant for which disease. More investigation is needed about the composition of chemicals and about the Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, Toxicology and Adverse Effect/Adverse Reaction of it. Endemic/indigenous Ethiopian Plants must be studied by the university level and there must be creating one department about Endemic/Indigenous Ethiopian Medical Plants. In this way Kess Waka Meskelo International Medical Center in Tedda-Gonder which is owned by Dr.Aderajew Waka took the initiative and will try to collaborate with the University of Gonder, College of Agriculture and Environmental Science, Department of Agriculture and Economics, Tedda-Campus, Gonder/ Ethiopia to install a joint Project on Medical Plants in Ethiopia including AI Technology. In this farming plot at TeddaMeskelo, the pre-conditions like permanent ground water and other very crucial needed situations for the vegetation of medical plants is already well prepared and developed by Dr.Aderajew Waka Wassie.Including to these many medical and fruit plants as well as other economically valuable plants which are planted also by Dr. Aderajew Waka Wassie at his green area.

Incorporating AI into the study and utilization of medicinal plants can significantly advance our understanding of their therapeutic potential and improve their sustainable cultivation and utilization. However, it's important to ensure that AI applications in this field are developed and used responsibly, taking into account ethical and ecological considerations. By leveraging AI in these ways, we can better understand, adapt to, and mitigate the effects of climate change on medicinal plants. This, in turn, can help preserve traditional medicinal knowledge and ensure a sustainable supply of plant-based remedies for future generations. In this case Dr.Aderajew Waka will take all responsibilities to control, use and manage the AI Technology which will be utilized for this specific Project at Tedda – Gonder and also at University of Gonder.

Abstract

From a massage therapist's point of view, working in a palliative care hospice setting presents a unique set of challenges and opportunities. In this environment, the mental well-being of healthcare staff is of utmost importance, not only for their personal welfare but also for the quality of care and services they provide. Massage therapy plays a vital role in addressing these concerns.

Palliative care hospice staff often experience compassion fatigue, stress, and emotional burnout due to the demanding nature of their work. The power of touch and the relaxation provided by massage therapy can help alleviate these emotional burdens. Regular massages offer a proactive approach to stress management, promoting relaxation and reducing stress levels. They provide a safe space for staff to release pent-up emotions and tension, which is essential in a highly emotional and demanding healthcare environment.

Furthermore, massage therapy contributes to the physical well-being of the staff by reducing muscle tension and promoting better sleep, both of which are crucial for maintaining overall health and preventing sick days. Staff members who are physically and mentally well are better equipped to provide compassionate care, make sound decisions, and communicate effectively with patients and their families.

By incorporating massage therapy into the staff wellness program, the hospice demonstrates a commitment to self-care and emotional support. This not only reduces sick days but also fosters a culture of well-being. Ultimately, the positive impact on staff well-being directly translates to improved patient care, higher satisfaction levels among patients and families, and a more harmonious work environment. In the world of palliative care, the healing power of touch is not limited to patients; it extends to the dedicated staff who provide care, making a substantial difference in the overall quality of the hospice's services.

Abstract

The disease cancer is not mentioned in Ayurvedic texts as a single disease, but similar diseases like Dushta Vrana (Vitiated wounds), Dushta Granthi (Vitiated granulomas), and Dushta Arbud (Tumors) are mentioned in Ayurvedic texts. Cancers of female genital organs namely cervical, vaginal, uterine, fallopian tube and ovarian cancers also show similarity with some diseases mentioned in Yonivyapad Adhyaya in Charak Samhita. Apart from these 2 similarities, certain factors like Kleda (wetting agent), Krimi (Worms), and Shukra – Stree Beeja Dushti (Vitiation of sperm and ovum during fertilization) are also responsible in Samprapti (Etiological factors) of cancers of Tryawarta Yoni. Hence there is an urgent need of alternative treatment for preventing recurrence and metastasis in patients of gynecological cancers and to improve their Quality of Life. Considering Krimi (Worms) as a major risk factor in pathogenesis of gynecological cancers, Panchakarma treatment in the form of Krimighna Basti Upakram (De-worming through enema therapy) is used in our institute in patients of cancers of female genital organs to serve this purpose. Selection of the ingredients was on the basis of its anticancer activity and deworming activity.

Abstract

Human beings have been aware for thousands of years that combining natural ingredients with light is therapeutic. The treatment we now know as Photodynamic therapy (PDT)originated in ancient Egypt and has evolved over centuries in various forms. In recent times, researchers have studied various combinations of light therapy in conjunction with photosensitisers to treat various illnesses, including cancer. Photodynamic therapy operates by using light in combination with a photosensitiser to achieve programmed cell death, or apoptosis, in cancer treatment. PDT can also be used in antibiotic resistant antimicrobial treatments, such as diabetic ulcers.  While the research and practice has been carried out in many countries, photodynamic therapy is still not well known. It is a viable alternative treatment for cancer to using “conventional” surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, but many are unaware of its availability or potential. Unlike these “conventional” options, photodynamic therapy does not leave scars, is not toxic and can be delivered multiple times without concerns for toxicity. This paper outlines how photodynamic therapy works, how it is delivered and ongoing research into delivering the treatment using natural substances as photosensitisers.

Title: EVALUATION AND COMPARISON BETWEEN PHOTOBIOMODULATION AND MOXIBUSTION FOR THE TREATMENT OF KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS

Speaker

Amanda Farage Frade-Barros

Abstract

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a chronic degenerative inflammatory joint disease characterized by pain and joint swelling and associated with functional limitation and poor quality of life. Non-pharmacological treatments such as photobiomodulation (PBM) and moxibustion (MB) – a thermal therapy using heat from the herb Artemisia vulgaris (pressed in a stick and applied indirectly) – are being increasingly used to modulate the inflammatory process and analgesia in knee trigger points. Since there are only a few studies in the literature comparing the effects of PBM and MB, the aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the therapeutic effects of both treatments on patients with KOA. Twenty-two volunteers with KOA were randomly divided into 2 groups: PBM (n=12) and MB (n=10). The treatments were performed at the same points on alternate days, three times a week, totaling 12 sessions. Pain, agility, functional and quality of life tests as well as goniometric and perimetric measurements were carried out. By comparing the initial and final data, it could be observed that both PBM and MB groups presented statistically significant results in the WOMAC (p< 0.0001 and p< 0,002, respectively), TUG (p<0.0001 for both), and VAS (p<0.0001 and p= 0.0102, respectively) tests. According to the data, the PBM group showed results with faster response times than the MB group. It can be concluded that acupuncture therapies by laser acupuncture (i.e., photobiomodulation) and moxibustion are effective and viable therapeutic resources of Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (ICHPs) for the treatment of KOA.

Abstract

The use of traditional and integrative medicine has a long history side by side. The concept of physical therapy brought enhancement to the use of this practice in our day to day activities. Pretty diverse. Pretty challenging. Pretty unpredictable. Pretty gut wrenching and hopeful at the same time when faced with human suffering on a daily basis and knowing you are changing the suffering and seeing a person who cannot function become independent and learn psychological, emotional, and physical coping skills that helps them accept some things that cannot change completely and most times change completely. We love ALL our patients equally, we empathise with their individual sufferings, we love to see patients cross important milestones (paediatric spastic child walking for the first time/ Stroke patient walking in 3 months/ athlete completing that marathon after ankle sprain 8 weeks ago/ post-natal incontinent woman being able to control the bladder/ vulvodynia patient being able to have intercourse/ patient walking out after consult with no headache). We love to visualize a world devoid of pain and this is why most pain neuroscience research is being pioneered and translated to clinics by physiotherapists!

Important note: although physiotherapists deal with many acute pain and short term complaintsometimes (increasingly over the last 30 years because of the pain epidemic) we are dealing with difficult, complex and chronic presentations of pain (central sensitisation). Traditional and integrative medicine practitioners have also done their best to work with physical therapists to solve issues such as chronic pain etc. Physical therapists were once perceived as 'healers' but that has changed as much of pain neuroscience has evolved and in this subgroup- physios are more closer to coaches/ guides/ teachers.

Abstract

Grounding exercises for human beings and other living things, including animals have been around since millennia, I believe they may have been referred to as: centred, balanced, focused, earthing to name a few. I am bringing ancient science and western science together, after all both are sciences in their own rights. Just because western science carry words of caution towards ancient scientific techniques such as “More research is required” or “More research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits of grounding and earthing for reducing inflammation in the body”, does not make them any less valid. Please note this is in reference to techniques which have been passed down through generations. There is a plethora of research out there, and from my experiences western science is finally catching up with the ancient scientific techniques – correction, western science is now publicly acknowledging what indigenous people have practiced and have known for centuries. With the technological advancements, and people sharing information at the touch of a button, it is becoming extremely difficult for certain organisations to keep denying the obvious. The fusion of the old and new, list of common ailments individuals may experience when they are “ungrounded” will also be discussed along with the various methods – after all, we are all different, therefore need to find our own techniques and modalities to suit our body types.
